Bike Safety & Education in Local Schools

The curriculum

We work with the PE departments at local middle schools to teach all riders the following skills, which we believe will stay with them through their entire lives:

  • Hand signals

  • Who has the right of way

  • Lane positions

  • Scanning before riding into traffic

  • Learning to be a part of traffic, not separate from it

  • Basic trail riding skills

The ReCyclery is thrilled to be a part of educating the next generation of cyclists, and would like to thank our volunteers in taking steps toward achieving them!

We work with local schools like Blue Heron, Chimacum, and Quilcene Middle Schools to provide bike safety guidance and education to the next generation of riders. We learn skills in the safety of the school's classrooms, parking lots, gymnasiums, and facilities, before adventuring out to local state parks, trail systems, and roads to put our skills to the test.

Volunteers will need to fill out a ReCyclery volunteer application and background check as well as one for the Port Townsend School District if volunteering for schools located inside PT city limits.
